Top 5 Romantic Disney Scenes

Tuesday, 14 February 2017

Happy Valentine's Day! As it's the day to celebrate love and romance I thought I'd talk about my top five romantic Disney scenes. I personally love Valentine's Day, I know it is overrated but I love that everything is so pink this time of year. I also understand that you're supposed to show your loved ones that you appreciate them all year round but there is absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating your love for each other that little bit more on Valentine's Day. However, no one does romance better than Disney, so only choosing five scenes was extremely difficult!

Tangled - Lanterns

Not only is this one of the most romantic scenes in a movie I've seen, it is also one of the most incredibly, beautiful movie scenes I have seen. I did have to decide between this scene or the one where Flynn saves Rapunzel and tells her "you were my new dream" because it kills me every time. However, the way they look at each other is so heart wrenching and you can truly see them falling in love, especially when Flynn begins to stop caring about the tiara. The whole scene is so beautifully put together, imagine experiencing something similar in real life? It would be so perfect.

Rapunzel: And the thing is, I'm not scared anymore. You know what I mean?
Flynn: I'm starting to.

Beauty and the Beast - Beast Releases Belle

As much as it broke his heart to do so, knowing there was the possibility he could remain a Beast forever, he puts Belle's feelings before his own and that is so incredibly important. He knew Belle's father needed her, you can see him look at the rose and think about what he is about to do. Even when he releases her he continues to look at the rose, knowing what he has done but he did it because he loves her. The way he says "because I love her" is so sad, yet so touching and uplifting at the same time.

Beast: [about the mirror] Take it with you. so you'll always have a way to look back, and remember me.
Belle: Thank you for understanding how much he needs me.

Enchanted - Robert and Giselle Dancing Together

Enchanted is one of Disney's most underrated films and this scene in the film gets me every single time. As the movie progresses they make it extremely obvious that they are falling for each other but this scene is the moment they both finally admit it to themselves. The sadness we can see on both of their faces in heartbreaking, as they both believe they will never end up together. We all know how the film ends, though. Amy Adams looks so incredibly beautiful in this scene as well, the purple dress she wears is so subtle and that's what makes her stand out against everyone else in this scene.

Giselle: Is this a habit of yours? Falling off of stuff?
Robert: Only when you're there to catch me.

Hercules - Hercules Chooses Meg Over Being a God

Hercules wanted nothing more than to become a God again and be able to go home to his parents but he gave up his dream so he could be with Meg. This whole scene always has me in floods of tears, especially when he says "I finally know where I belong." I love when he kisses Meg and he loses his glow, so he is no longer a God, and she pulls him in closer. At first his parents look concerned that this is the life Hercules has chosen but their faces soon change to show that they want nothing more than for him to be happy, being with Meg is where he belongs and they can truly see that.

Hercules: But a life without Meg, even an immortal life, would be empty. I wish to stay on earth with her. I finally know where I belong.

UP - Carl & Ellie's Story

I think this scene speaks for itself, Over 5 minutes we watch Carl and Ellie's relationship unfold, even without the use of dialog it is clear how in love they are. This is one of my favourite pieces of animation, it is so beautifully done and it covers so much in so little time. They have the most adorable relationship and I love how much Carl adored Ellie, which is evident from the way he looks at her and the heartbreak you can see him going through when he loses her. I am now sat crying as I write, as I have just watched the scene again...

Ellie: You and me... We're in a club now.
