Top 5 Disney Reprise Songs

Sunday, 19 June 2016

I love listening to the Disney reprises, sometimes more than the actual songs. A reprise is a repeated passage in music and it will occur after the main song has taken place. I personally believe that Disney reprises do not receive the love they deserve. They are just as amazing, if not better, than the original song and really wrap up the songs as a whole. It was difficult for me to narrow it down to just five but here are my top 5 Disney reprise songs! These are in no particular order. Let know what your favorites are in the comments!

1.Part of Your World Reprise - The Little Mermaid ♥
As Part of Your World is my favourite Disney song, it seems obvious that is the reprise would also be one of my favourites. I think the scene where Ariel is on the rock is one of the most memorable scenes from the film. I believe it is also paying homage to the Little Mermaid statue in Denmark. Although, Ariel's dreams are later lead by her desire to be with a man she has just met, she still chases her dreams and achieves them. I love the reprise just as much as I love the original song.

2.Go The Distance Reprise - Hercules
Not only is Hercules an extremely underrated film, the songs also do not receive the recognition they deserve. I love Go The Distance because Hercules is singing about how he is determined to find somewhere he belongs. Once he finds out who he real family are he goes onto to sing the reprise, which is just as heart wrenching and tear jerking. I remember watching Hercules for the first time and being annoyed with myself that I had never discovered this song before. I instantly fell in love with it.

3.Belle Reprise - Beauty and the Beast

Every time I watch Beauty and the Beast and Belle sings this song, I love it even more. Like most Disney fans, I long for adventure and to explore the world, so this song gives me major wanderlust. I feel that I can sympathise with Belle, I want nothing more than to travel the world and leave Birmingham for a while. I even wrote about this scene in my dissertation, as I think it is such a vital scene for Belle's character.

4.When Will My Life Begin (Reprise) - Tangled
Tangled is one of my favourite Disney films and I think I prefer the When Will My Life Begin Reprise better than the original. I love watching Rapunzel experience the great outdoors for the first time and her excitement as she feels the grass between her toes. She is finally free and able to do as she pleases. She is no longer asking when will her life begin, it has begun.

5.Down in New Orleans Reprise - Princess and the Frog
I remember watching Princess and the Frog for the first time because it was on my way to Florida for the first time and I instantly loved it. The music in this film is incredible and definitely does not get the recognition it deserves. I love this reprise because Tiana has finally earned her restaurant and not only made her, but her father's dreams come true. I think the reprise rounds up the whole film beautifully, I'd love to see more of Tiana's and Naveen's relationship.

  4. I'm honestly surprised more people don't rate Prince Ali (Reprise) in their Top Lists. Not only is it a wonderful take on the original but it's the only reprise that's thematic.

Prince Ali is a song to show off Aladdin's newfound greatness due to Genie .. and the Reprise is Jafar taking not only the Genie and his power with it, but also Aladdin's song. Jafar is literally taking everything from Aladdin, deconstructing Aladdin back to what he was prior to Genie and even goes as far as to corrupt his own song along the way, stripping him bare.
