Let's Talk | Shanghai Disneyland

Tuesday, 9 February 2016

As you are probably more than aware, Disney are opening their $5.5 billion park this year in Shanghai on 16th June. Just like everyone else I am highly anticipating its opening. Unfortunately I will not be able to visit the park during its opening and I'm not sure when I will be able to but I am more than excited to see how everything turns out. The park will feature two hotels (which I personally do not think will be enough), Shanghai Disneyland hotel and a Toy Story themed hotel, a shopping distract and 99 acres of land. Mickey Avenue is the entrance to the park, so I'm guessing it will not be Main Street USA like the other parks? Correct me if I'm wrong. It is inspired by the personalities of Mickey Mouse and his friends, so more than likely the fab five. Below is concept art of the entrance to the park.

First things first, lets talk prices. Disney has just recently released the ticket prices for the park and announced that they will go on sale on 28th March, the prices of the tickets will vary during seasons. During the high-demand season you will be looking at around $76 and when the parks are a  little bit quieter during the slower seasons they will be around $56. I was expecting the tickets to be a lot more expensive and personally these seem like reasonable prices,
I am probably most excited about the Enchanted Storybook Castle, it is going to be the biggest castle in Disney history and from the pictures and the concept art that have already been released, it looks like it is going to be so beautiful. This castle will also represent all of the Disney Princesses by having mosaics depict the four season through Tiana, Mermaid, Rapunzel, Elsa and Anna and an illuminated marquee that will be attributed to Belle, Cinderella and Snow White. By the sounds of everything that will be taking place inside the castle, it needs to be pretty big! This includes the Royal Banquet Hall (it states they have vegetarian options, which I'm excited about), character meet and greets, Voyage to the Crystal Grotto, Once Upon a Time Adventure and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. On the Shanghai Disneyland website they talk about the Voyage to the Crystal Grotto by saying "journey deep into a cavern where favourite Disney tales come alive in a dazzling display of music, light and wonder!" This is a waterfront excursion where guests will be able to journey into a cavern where the tales of Aladdin, Ariel, Belle, Rapunzel, Mulan and the Sorcerer's Apprentice are told. I think this sounds amazing and I'm excited that more of the films are getting recognition at the parks and not just the most popular ones and the older films. Below is just a few pictures of the concept art for Voyage to the Crystal Grotto.
Shanghai will be home to some of the well known rides that can be found at the other parks such as Peter Pan's Flight, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Dumbo the Flying Elephant and of course, the carousel. They will also be introducing new rides into the parks, these include TRON Lightcycle Power Run, Roaring Rapids which is their water ride, Soaring Over the Horizon and Jet Packs, plus many more. I went on the original Soaring at EPCOT, so I'm excited to one day be able to experience the newer version that they introduced at D23 last year.
Pictured below is a map of how the park is going to be laid out and where the attractions will be positioned.
Some of the shops and restaurants at the park are Remy's Patisseries, a French bakery themed after Ratatouille, Chip & Dale's Treehouse Treats, Sweethearts Confectionery, Haus of Waffles, Avenue M Arcade which will be the largest gift ship in the park, Mickey & Pals Market Cafe and Wandering Moon Teahouse which is a traditional Chinese restaurant. One of the restaurants I am excited for is Tangled Tree Tavern, which is themed after the Snuggly Duckling pub in Tangled. I can just imagine jumping up on the tables and belting out I've Got a Dream.. I can't wait for the park to open so more pictures can be released, even though I will be extremely jealous that I am not yet able to go. Something else that will be new to Shanghai Disneyland is the land Gardens of Imagination, which will celebrate the wonders of nature and imagination as guests are able to enjoy seven whimsical gardens. I love nature, so I think this will be a lovely touch to the park and add a sense of serenity and calmness from the hustle and bustle of the other lands. The park will also include the lands Fantasyland, Treasure Cove, Adventure Isle and Tomorrowland. Below is some more of the concept art of the park.
Like the other Disney parks Shanghai Disneyland will also be home to a downtown area where guests will be to dine and shop. Some of the dining experiences guests will be able to encounter at Disneytown are blue frog, BreadTalk, The Cheesecake Factory, Coconut Paradise, Crystal Jade, The Dining Room and many more! Of course Disneytown will have a World of Disney Store, this is one of my favourite things about Disney, I could walk around the shop all day looking at everything and never get bored. Not only does it sell merchandise but the decorations are always incredible too. I know I'd love walking around all of the shops in Disneytown, it is something I really enjoy doing when I visit Orlando and Paris. I also think it is a good place to relax and wander around if you are looking for a more relaxed day, or want to take a bit of time away from the actual park because you can still have a brilliant Disney experience looking around the shops and dining in the restaurants. Guests will also be able to witness the Mandarin-language debut of The Lion King on stage!
I love the sound of Wishing Star Park, I think it will be so lovely if anyone wants to relax and go somewhere a bit more serene. They can also take their children to have a run around in the Dragonfly Playground. Sometimes it is nice to have a moment away from the park and hopefully it will be quieter than the parks. It will also hold Starlight Amphitheater, where guests will be able to watch the night sky unfold right in front of their eyes, I think this sounds incredible and I cannot wait to hear more about it!

This is just a short post covering some of the amazing things we have to look forward to at Shanghai Disneyland, I will definitely do an updated post when the park opens and if more information is released. I might have to start saving up soon so I can visit the park because everything looks and sounds incredible. What are you mot excited about?
